Machete kills again

The event took place on January 24 at around 0:40 close to a pub in Tuffley, Gloucester’s ward, in England. Three men were attacked by an offender armed with a machete.
A young man of 19 died at the scene during the attack. The other two victims, aged 18 and 22, are still alive. The 22 year-old man, although seriously injured, is now in a stable condition after being taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital where he underwent surgery. The young man of 18 suffered minor injuries.
The police have already begun their investigation to find the perpetrator, they launched an appeal for witnesses requiring those who saw what happened to come to testify.

Wide Angle:
This is not the first time that this type of object is used for malicious purposes in London. Indeed, a jeweller was recently held-up with a machete, and 2 years ago in Woolwich in the London suburb, it was with a machete that the military Lee Rigby was beheaded.
Criminals may be quite original. No more guns, the trend is all about stabbing weapons. Measures must be taken quickly to ensure security, at least in the short term, for example strengthening security around places “at risk” such as nightclubs or bars, which see many incidents daily.

5,000 ancient coins discovered in Buckinghamshire field
Paul Coleman, member of the Weekend Wanderers Detecting Club taking part in a dig in the Padbury area on 21 December, discovered 5,251 old coins in a sealed lead container near Aylesbury.
This is considered to be one of the biggest hoards of ancient coins ever found in Britain.
Some of these coins, on which the heads of kings Ethelred the Unready and Canute can be seen, date back tothe 11th century. All will be examined in the British Museum. A coroner will now decide if this discovery can be considered as a treasure.
The majority of the members of the Weekend Wanderers Detecting Club agreed that this discovery was the most exciting and without a doubt the best of their detective's life.
Peter Welch who was present during the discovery said that Mr Coleman had seen some lead fragments but did not touch them; he knew they were important.
He also described the reaction of all the people who were present during the discovery. They were all under shock when they learnt that it was true; they held their breath, there was a big silence. It was like a dream coming true.
A museum can now buy these coins; incomes will be separated between the owner of the land and the person having discovered this treasure.

Stonehenge road tunnel plan

Proposals to build a tunnel beside Stonehenge were dropped seven years ago because of cost, but now a dual carriageway and a road tunnel are planned to upgrade the A303, that  currently passes next to Stonehenge. This project including a 1.6-mile tunnel or two 1.8-mile tunnels over the A303 is meant to reduce the many traffic jams on the A303 that could severely damage the monument.
The International Council on Monuments and Sites (Icomos), which advises Unesco, has expressed concern over this project. Icomos recognize that a tunnel could have beneficial impacts on this World Heritage site but that portals and dual carriageways could have a highly adverse impact on other parts of the World Heritage landscape.
The UK branch of Icomos wants the government to "fully engage" with the World Heritage Committee to find a solution that "respects and maintains" the value of Stonehenge, this "iconic and unique site".
For many people, this English Heritage that Stonehenge represents should remain unchanged.
The Department for Transport says it has worked closely with key organisations and no decisions have been made yet.

December 13, 2014
The M25 tragedy
Friday evening, around 7 pm, a Sudanese who tried to join London from Calais died on the M25 by falling from the truck to which he was hanging. Unfortunately this same truck rolled over him.

Two men native from Sudan had climbed under a foreign lorry in the French port of Calais on Friday morning. The vehicle, after crossing the Channel Tunnel, took the direction of London and ended up joining the M25.
At about 19:00, while the truck was stationary on lane one of the motorways, one of the men went down to the edge of the grass nearby. Apparently, the second man tried to do the same, but the truck started to move away. He fell under the rear wheels of the truck that caused him fatal injuries.

A traveler stopped his vehicle and moved the injured man on the side, he then abandoned him. Thereafter a second traveler stopped his vehicle too and offered his help to the injured.
After the death of the Sudanese, the truck driver was researched by the police, eventually he said he was not aware of the "murder" that he committed and therefore he was released.
The number of migrant temptations to UK via Calais has increased by 50% in recent years. The reason is that more and more people are fleeing the humanitarian crises in Africa.

Driverless cars set to be tested in four English cities

December 3rd, 2014

Driverless cars will be tested in four English cities (Greenwich, Bristol, Coventry and Milton Keynes). The tests will start on January 1st and will last between 18 and 36 months at a cost of nearly £19m.

Greenwich will host the Gateway scheme led by the Transport Research Laboratory consultancy and involving General Motors and the AA and RAC motoring associations. It will test the automated passenger shuttle vehicles and autonomous valet parking for adapted cars.

Bristol will host the Venturer consortium involving Axa insurance group. The Venturer consortium’s purpose is to investigate how driverless cars can reduce congestion and make roads safer.
A self-drive car simulator will make a photorealistic 3D model of the area to study how people react to sharing the driving of a vehicle with a computer.

Milton Keynes and Coventry will host the UK Autodrive programme involving Ford, Jaguar, Land Rover and the engineering consultancy firm Arup.
This programme will test self-drive cars on the road and develop the technologies and the infrastructure needed for these self-drive cars to aid the vehicle navigation.

They will begin testing single vehicles on closed roads to demonstrate to users, legislators, the police and insurance companies that these driverless cars can operate safely on the road.
