Serial butcher
Stephen Marshall, 36, is notorious for the murder of a kitchen salesman Jefferey Howe in March 2009. Actually, everyone can remember the story of this poor man who had accepted to host the murderer and his girlfriend. Marshall dismembered and dispersed the body across Hertfordshire and Leicestershire and decided to take over his propriety and use his bank account. Mr Howe's left leg, severed at the thigh, was found wrapped in blue plastic close on the roadside in Cottered, Hertfordshire. The couple were found thanks to the credit card and the fake identity of the checks.
Well after ten months, Stephen Marshall who was condemned in the St Alban Crown to 36 years of jail mentioned he had close links with the criminal underworld, the Adam family and admitted to having chopped up other bodies. His lawyer Peter Doyle told the court, Marshall had been asked to help for the dismemberment of four corpses.
The court heard that the bodies were buried in Epping Forest near London. The Hentford police said it was likely detectives would visit the murder in prison to question him about the claims.
My point of view : why are people so interested in this type of articles ? Actually, it shows the evil part of life, the danger they can run into. Readers are first afraid for themselves and their family, but in the same time, they are fascinated. Life seems just like a novel or a movie, it seems exciting. A man has eaten his girlfriend or a man has killed and dismembered a friend. A child has jumped of the fifth floor and is alive. A lot of stories are just incredible. Everyone feels this morbid fascination.

Cadavres en vrac
Tout le monde connaît l'histoire de Stephen Marshall en Angleterre.
Il avait tué de sang froid Jefferey Howe, qui avait accepté de l'héberger lui et sa petite amie. Puis, il avait démembré sa victime et avait dispersé ses membres à travers les comtés de Hertfordshire et Leicestershire, La jambe de M. Howe, qui avait été sectionnée puis emballée dans un sac plastique a été retrouvée au bord d'une route. Il s'était ensuite approprié son identité et avait utilisé son compte en banque mais avait été retrouvé avec sa compagne grâce aux retraits de la carte de crédit et aux chèques encaissés sous une fausse identité.
Après presque un an et après avoir été condamné à 36 ans de prison, l'affaire ressurgit : Marshall a déclaré avoir été impliqué dans une affaire semblable. En effet, il aurait travaillé avec les Adam, une famille de délinquants et aurait découpé quatre autres corps. Peter Doyle, l’avocat de l'accusé a informé la cour que cette famille avait demandé à son client de découper les cadavres. La cour a également appris que les corps avaient été enterrés dans la forêt d’Epping près de Londres.
La police a déclaré que les détectives rendraient visite à l'accusé en prison pour lui demander plus d'informations.
Mon point de vue : Le fait divers ; Le plus souvent étrange ou/et exceptionnel, le fait divers est la catégorie la plus lue et la plus demandée. La question qui peut se poser est : « Pourquoi ? », Pour quelles raisons, le public s'intéresse-t-il autant à ce genre d'articles ? En fait, on peut voir dans ces faits divers la part maléfique de la vie et de la société. Le lecteur est tout d'abord effrayé, il a peur pour sa famille et ses proches. Il est en même temps fasciné, la vie lui paraît tout à coup excitante telle un roman ou un film. Les faits divers sont plus étranges les uns que les autres: Un homme mange sa fiancée, un autre démembre un vieil ami, un enfant saute du cinquième étage et s’en sort indemne. Tout le monde partage cette fascination morbide.

Bomb alert at London Heathrow
After the failed attempt to bomb an airliner on Christmas day another accident came to emphasize the current tension. In London Heathrow airport, Emirates flight EK004 declared a bomb threat. The aircraft which was due to take off in Dubai Friday evening was reported on Saturday afternoon and the 328 passengers of the flight were driven in a hotel for the night. A statement from Emirates said: « the safety and security of all our passengers are paramount. We apologize for the inconvenience. »
The threat was made in 21:15 pm when a man became furious and had an argument with the crew. The passenger sitting next to him Ryan Dolson, 25 from London said: « He seemed inebriated when he first got on the plane. He was muttering to himself and he managed to offend a woman nearby ».Indeed, the cabin crew told him to control his language but he carried on and explained how easy it was to blow up a plane and kill people.
The Metropolitan police was immediately alerted and boarded the plane. Rylan had to retain the man . Then, he was lead in police custody with three other men. They are all British aged 58, 48 and 36 and were sitting in economic class.
My point of view I think the security in the airports is good. Some measures have to be planned . In these types of things, it is either too much or too little, there’s no middle ground.

Alerte à la bombe à Heathrow
Comme pour augmenter les tensions, une nouvelle alerte à la bombe est survenue ce week-end après celle de l’attentat raté pendant les périodes de Noël. A l’aéroport londonien de Heathrow, un vol à destination de Dubaï, l’Emirates EK004 qui devait arriver le vendredi soir a finalement été reporté au samedi après-midi et les 328 passagers ont été reconduits dans un hôtel pour la nuit.
Un employé de la compagnie a assuré « la survie et la sécurité de nos passagers est prioritaire. Nous nous excusons pour les désagréments causés. »
L’alerte a été donnée à 21 heures 15 lorsqu’un passager de l’avion se mit en colère et injuria l’équipage. Ryan Dolson 25 ans, venant de Londres assis à ses côtés fit part de ses impressions à la BBC: « Il paraissait saoul à son arrivée dans l’avion. Il parlait dans sa barbe et il a insulté une femme à côté. » L’équipage lui a demandé de se tenir tranquille mais il a continué ses menaces et a expliqué qu’il était facile de faire exploser un avion et de tuer par la même occasion ses passagers.
Immédiatement l’alerte a été donnée et la police métropolitaine a contrôlé l’avion. Rylan retenait son voisin. L’homme fut d’ailleurs emmené ensuite pour interrogatoire avec trois autres hommes, des Britanniques âgés de 58, 48 et 36 ans, voyageant en classe économique.
Mon point de vue: Je pense que certaines mesures doivent être prises pour améliorer encore la sécurité dans les aéroports. Lorsque ce genre d’évènements se produit, on en fait trop comme dans cet incident ou pas assez. Il n’y a pas de juste milieu.

100th British soldier died in Afghansistan this year
Yesterday, after the death of a soldier who was shot in the Nad-e Ali area of Helmand in Afghanistan, the number of death is now reachs 100 for the UK. The British soldier hasn’t been named yet, but family and friends have been informed.
It happened only after the body of the 99th soldier dead has been flown back. Acutally AS John Amer, 30, of the 30th Nasser from Sunderland, wounded as he went to help his colleague who had been hurt in another explosion earlier.
Air Chief Marshal Sir Jock Stirrup, chief of the defence staff said, this year was a particulary challenging one.
As the result of this announce, Bob Ainsworth, the defence secretary joined the head of the army for calling the public not only to judge the casualties of the campaign in Afghanistan.
General Sir David Richards said that this judgement devalued the “tremendous efforts” of the troops.
The chief of the Defence staff Air Chief Marshal Sir John Stirrup said that the efforts “have bought security” on the Helmond and that the army is bulding the real bases for the Afghanistan.
Apparently, according to Mr Ainsworth, the defance secretary, there was a real progress in the troops too. He said that the Afghanistan compaign was vital for the UK security and that people have to understand their presence in the country.
Besides Mr Brown, the Prime Minister said last month that 500 soldiers will be added to the troops. The UK deployment will reach now 10,000. General Sir David Richards said Mr Brown, had finally started to get the importance of the project
However, the Stop the War coalition repeated that for them, it’s an unecessary war...

Le 100è mort britannique en Afghanistan
Hier, le stade des 100 morts à été dépassé après la mort d’un soldat tué dans la région de Nad-e Ali dans la province de Helmand en Afghanistan. L’identité du défunt n’a pas encore été rendue publique, mais sa famille et ses amis ont été récemment prévenus.
La mort du soldat est arrivée seulement quelque temps après le retour du corps du quatre-vingt dix-neuvième soldat, John Amer , 30 ans, du trentième régiment de Sunderland tué en voulant porter secours à un de ses camarades touché par une autre explosion.
Le général Jock Stirrup, chef de la défense a avoué une année éprouvante pour les soldats.
Après la mort de ce soldat, le Secrétaire à la Défense Bob Ainsworth, a demandé lui aussi aux Britanniques de ne pas considérer uniquement les pertes. Le général David Richards a ajouté qu’un tel jugement dévalorisait les incroyables efforts dont déployés par les troupes.
Le général Stirrup a expliqué que ces sacrifices avaient permis d’apporter la sécurité dans la région de Helmond et que l’armée était en train de construire de solides bases pour le pays.
D’après M. Ainsworth, cette guerre était aussi essentielle pour la sécurité de la Grande-Bretagne et leur présence sur le terrain devait être bien comprise.
M. Brown, le Premier Ministre a d’ailleurs annoncé le mois dernier que 500 soldats viendraient s’ajouter aux troupes déjà présentes . Le nombre de soldats anglais seraient alors de 10.000. Pour le général David Richard, le Premier Ministre a enfin compris les enjeux et l’importance d’un tel projet.
Cependant, les associations pacifistes ont réaffirmé l’inutilité de cette guerre.

Crash testing riot shields
Last Thursday, whereas Mr. Latham, an Englishman, was sledding in a kayak when policemen on duty rejoined him.
According to a video on Youtube, we can see that they stayed quite a while to enjoy sledding too... with their riot shields. Which did not really please their superintendent, Andrew Murray, who somewhat reprimanded them, but nonetheless admitted the snow had "a habit of bringing out the child in all of us". However, their behavior have had the effect of improving their rigid image of policemen, since the residents of Oxford found their reaction rather friendly and humorous.

La police anglaise s'entraîne pour les JO
Jeudi dernier, alors que M. Latham était tranquillement en train de faire de la luge avec son kayak, il a vu s'approcher de lui un groupe de policiers. Loin de le verbaliser, ceux-ci se sont juste contentés de faire quelques glissades à bord de leur boucliers anti-émeutes, comme le montre la vidéo publiée sur Youtube.
Mis au courant de l'affaire, leur supérieur, Andrew Murray, les a quelques peu réprimandés, admettant néanmoins que la neige avait souvent le pouvoir de nous faire retomber en enfance.
Toutefois, leur comportement a surtout eu pour effet de rafraîchir l'image, jusqu'alors plutôt rigide, des policiers, puisque les habitants d'Oxford ont apprécié leur réaction qu'ils ont trouvé agréable et drôle.
