College on fire

An investigation has been launched into the cause of a large fire which destroyed a

part of the main building at a college in Swansea.

Emergency services were called on Tycoch Road, Sketty, at 4.30 of the morning on

Friday. The fire began in the library on the third floor and propagated to the fourth

floor. The lower floors have also been damaged, not because of the fire but because

of the water used to put out the flames. About 100 firefighters tackled the fire at

Gower College.

As the water supply wasn’t been sufficient to stop the fire, they had to bring some

water of the fire hydrants which were further away.

Tycoch Road was closed on Friday and the neighbouring site of Hill House College has

also been closed. The college was closed on Monday and Tuesday, so the students

who had to take their exams (GCSE) these days took them at Hill House.

Le 28 octobre 2016, une enquête a été lancée sur la cause d’un incendie qui a détruit

une partie du bâtiment principal d’une institut universitaire de Swansea.

Les services d’urgences ont été appelés sur Tycoch Road, Sketty, à 4h30 du matin le

vendredi. Le feu a pris dans la bibliothèque au 3 ème étage et s’est propagé au 4 ème

étage mais les étages inférieurs ont aussi été endommagés, non pas par le feu mais

par l’eau utilisée pour éteindre les flammes. Une centaine de pompiers ont été

mobilisés pour combattre l’incendie du Grower College. L’approvisionnement en eau

sur place n’a pas été suffisant et des bouches d’incendie ont dû être utilisées.

Tycoch Road a été fermé le vendredi ainsi que le site voisin de Hill House. Les

étudiants qui devaient passer leurs examens ces jours-ci (GCSE) ont été transférés à

Hill House.
