A computer engineer of the British Airways jailed for 30 years

A computer engineer, who worked for the British Airways company, was given for thirty years of jailed to prepare an attack in a plane.
Actually, Rajib Karim, a 31 years-old Bangladeshi, was found guilty, in the end of February, of trying to put a bomb aboard of a plane about to take off in the Unites States. An American-Yemeni imam, Anwar al-Awlaki, who is recognized by Washington like one of Al-Qaida main leader, helped him.
During the computer engineer trial, the judge David Calvert-Smith declared that he came in Great Britain to lead terrorist attack. He also emphasized, during his conviction the last 28th February, that Rajib Karim used his position in the company to try to blow up the plane, and show his religious extremism attachment.
The young man was arrived in the United Kingdom in 2006 with his family. Karim was on the point of getting his British passport, which would ensure him to travel abroad and launch attacks. However, in February 2010, he was arrested at the call centre post office of the company in Newcastle.
According to the prosecution, Rajib Karim was contacted since 2009, with Anwar al-Awlaki, who had given some information and encouraged the Bangladeshi man to make enquiries about the best way to smuggle a parcel or a person carrying it aboard the plane for the USA.
However, Karim denied during his trial that he organised an attack, and assured that if he came in England, it was only to cure his son affected by a bowel cancer. He however admitted participated in an Islamic organisation forbidden in the country and sent some money for the terrorists.

My opinion

I find this condemnation of 30 years fair, and I hope that the time he will spend in jail will make him think about his failed action. I do not understand, why this man wanted to do this attack: maybe that this imam encourage him to put the bomb, or maybe, he thinks that he have to help God to punish other sinners.
However, he would know that kill somebody is a sin, and that the first person he has to punish would be he!

Un ingénieur informaticien qui travaillait pour la compagnie aérienne British Airways a été condamné lundi à trente ans de prison pour avoir préparé un attentat dans un avion.
En effet Rajib Karim, un Bangladeshi de 31 ans, avait été reconnu coupable fin février d'avoir essayé de placer une bombe à bord d'un avion en partance pour les Etats-Unis, avec l'aide de l'imam américano-yéménite Anwar al-Awlaki. Ce dernier est reconnu par Washington comme l'un des dirigeants clés d'Al-Qaïda dans la péninsule arabique.
Pendant le procès de l’ingénieur en informatique, le juge David Calvert-Smith avait déclaré que celui-ci était venu en Grande-Bretagne en vue de mener des attentats terroristes. Il souligna aussi, lors de sa condamnation le 28 février dernier, que Rajib Karim s’était servi de sa position au sein de cette compagnie pour tenter de faire sauter un avion, et montrer son attachement à l’extrémisme religieux.
Le jeune homme était arrivé au Royaume-Uni en 2006 avec sa famille. Karim était d’ailleurs sur le point d’obtenir un passeport britannique, qui lui aurait permis de voyager à l’étranger et lancer des attaques. Seulement en février 2010, il fut arrêté au poste du centre d’appel de la compagnie à Newcastle.
Selon l’accusation, Rajib Karim était entré en contact depuis 2009, avec Anwar al-Awlaki, qui lui aurait donné des informations et encouragé le Bangladeshi, à se renseigner sur la meilleure façon d’introduire un paquet ou une personne transportant le paquet à bord d’un avion pour l’Amérique.
Seulement Karim avait nié pendant son procès avoir organisé un attentat, et avait assuré qu’il s’était rendu en Angleterre afin de soigner son fils atteint d’un cancer de l’intestin. Il reconnu toutefois avoir participé à une organisation islamiste interdite dans le pays et transféré des fonds à des fins terroristes.

Mon opinion

Je trouve que cet homme a bien fait d’être condamné pour trente de prison. J’espère que sa condamnation le fera réfléchir à son acte, bien qu’il fut arrêté à temps. Je ne comprends pas pourquoi cet homme a voulu commettre cet attentat : peut-être que cet imam l’a incité à poser une bombe, ou pense-t-il qu’il doit aider Dieu à punir les autres personnes ?
Seulement, il devrait savoir que tuer des gens est un péché, et que la première personne qu’il doit punir serait lui !

Seven injured in a hospital attack

15^th January 2011

Five patients and two female employees at Newham General Hospital, London, have been attacked by an other patient at 12.40am.

A patient, Consuela Camacho, aged in her ate 60s, has been seriously injured on the head after the attack at the early hours. She is now in stable condition after have been said ''critical'' on the morning, according to a Scotland Yard spokesman.

Four other patients suffered minor injuries. It is thought they were asleep when they were attacked. Two female staff have also been hurt while restraining the man.

Police said a 22-year-man, a patient of the hospital, has been arrested in custody under 24 hour guard.

The hospital said an investgation was under way and confirmed that neither drugs nor alcohol were factors of incident.

Scotland Yard said staff called police shortly after 12.40am during the incident.

Witness said the man hit Consuela Camacho in the face with a metal bar. The attack stopped when the patient in the next bed shouted at him, who then turned his attention to her, witness said. After hitting his head against a wall, the assailant striked an approaching nurse with his metal bar.

Nurses called three times for security personnel during the the attack

It is believed the man who carried out the attack had mental health problems.

A statement from Newham University Hospital NHS Trust confirmed the Metropolitan Police were investigating an incident

It said it related to a patient who had been admitted to hospital, five more patients and two clinical members staff.

My opinion

This attack throw back the debate on hospital security. Lots of experts say that the actual system is not apprpriate. An attack like this put the security services to the test whereas they are not always really prepared to face situtaion like those. Secondly, the surity doesn't always intervene as in this attack during which nurses had to call security three times.

It's a question of budget. Because of the recession, some employes lose their job and hospital miss staff. So security guards are not always qualified.

In my opinion, patients who are admitted in the hospital need treatment AND security when they need it.

Une attaque dans un hôpital blesse sept patients

Cinq patients et deux employées de Newham General Hospital ont été attaqué par un autre patient de l'hôpital vers 00h40 ce matin.

Consuela Camacho, une patiente âgée de la soixantaine, souffre de sérieuses blessures à la tête suite à cette attaque. Elle était dans un état critique ce matin mais est maintenant dans un état stable d'après un porte-parole de Scotland Yard.

Deux employées ont également été légèrement blessées en essayant d'intervenir, ainsi que quatre autres patients. Il est dit que ces patients étaient endormis quand ils ont été attaqués.

Un homme de 22 ans, patient de l'hôpital, a été arrêté et placé en garde à vu pour 24 heures. Un porte-parole de l'hôpital à tout de même confirmé que ni drogues ni alcool n'étaient des facteurs de l'incident.

Les témoignages disent que l'homme a frappé Mme Camacho à la tête avec une barre en métal. L'attaque a été interrompu par l'intervention de la patiente du lit d'à côté qui a frappé l'homme avant que celui-ci porte son attention sur elle, racontent les témoins. L'assaillant s'est ensuite cogné la tête contre le mur à plusieurs reprises avant de frapper un infirmière.

Les infirmières ont appelés la sécurité trois fois durant l'attaque mais n'ont reçu aucune aide.

Le patient responsable de cette attaque souffrirait de problèmes mentaux.

Un communiqué du Newham University Hospital NHS Trust a confirmé que la police enquêtait sur un incident et parle d'un patient admit à l'hôpital, de cinq autres patients et deux employées de l'hôpital.

Mon opinion

Cette attaque relance le débat sur la sécurité dans les hôpitaux. Des experts disent que le système n'est pas approprié. Une attaque comme celle-ci peut mettre les équipes de sécurité à rude épreuve mais pour cela, il faudrait qu'elles interviennent. De plus, elles ne sont pas réellement préparées à cela.

C'est également une question de budget car, avec la crise économique, beaucoup de gens sont renvoyés et les hôpitaux manquent de personnel. Les agents de sécurités ne sont ainsi pas toujours qualifiés.

D'après moi, les patients admis à l'hôpital doivent recevoir des soins et la sécurité dont ils ont besoin.

Murder Bollywood style

A 31-year old bridegroom British citizen of Indian descent, is suspected to have organised the murder of his wife last November during their honeymoon in Cape, South-Africa.Anni Hindocha, a beautiful 28-year old Swede of Indian extraction, was found at 7 am, a bullet in the nape of the neck, on the back seat of a Volkswagen, in Khayelitsha, a black township notorious for its dangerousness. Her bag, her telephone, a bracelet of diamonds and her Armani watch were missing and according to the police there was no rape.

Anni Hindosha died 2 weeks after a traditional wedding celebrated in Mumbai, in India. Her husband, Shrien Dewani, a businessman living in Bristol, gave the alarm in the night and explained to the police that they were victim of carjacking in the taxi driving them back to the hotel.

They were ambushed by two men who forced first the taxi driver then Mr Dewani out of the car unharmed before driving away with Anni Dewani still inside. Her body was found on the back seat of the abandoned car the following day with multiple gunshot wounds.

The next day the investigation of the South African police began and quickly the two men were arrested and charged with murder. The taxi driver was the accomplice of the criminals, and to reduce his prison sentence, he claimed that Mr Dewani had paid him and his accomplices £1,400 to kill his wife in a fake carjacking.

It isn’t the first time that a tourist is assassinated in South Africa. But this time, many facts seem to be shady. Why did criminals spare the husband? Why did he leave South Africa quickly and hire a lawyer? South African authorities launched a formal extradition request for Shrien Dewani and the investigation is still in progress.

My personal comment

I found this news item really bizarre. When a couple doesn’t get on well, they should split up. I think that if the husband is guilty, he should have had strong reasons to do that.
Maybe, Mr Dewani , has watched many bollywood films and was affected by their unbelievable screenplays . That’s why he built up this macabre script.

Depuis le 14 novembre dernier, un jeune marié de 31 ans, anglais d’origine indienne est suspecté d’avoir organisé le meurtre de sa jeune mariée pendant leur lune de miel au Cap en Afrique du sud.
Anni Hindocha, une belle suédoise de 28 ans, d’origine indienne également, a été retrouvée a 7h du matin une balle dans la nuque, à l’arrière d’une Volkswagen à Khayelitsha , un quartier noir réputé pour sa dangerosité . Son sac, son téléphone, un bracelet de diamant ainsi que sa montre Armani ont disparu et selon la police il n’y a pas eu de viol.
Anni Hindosha est morte, deux semaines après s’être marié à Mumbai en Inde. Son mari, Shrien Dewani, un homme d’affaire vivant à Bristol, a donné l’alerte dans la nuit et a expliqué à la police qu’ils avaient été victimes d’une agression dans le taxi qui les ramenait à l’hôtel.
Deux hommes leur auraient tendu une embuscade et auraient forcé le mari ainsi que le chauffeur de taxi à quitter le véhicule avant de partir avec Anni. Son corps criblé de balles a été retrouvé le lendemain à l’arrière de la voiture abandonnée.
Le jour suivant, la police sud-africaine, a commencé son enquête et a rapidement arrêté les deux hommes et les a inculpés de meurtre. Le chauffeur de taxi était leur complice et pour réduire sa peine, il a prétendu que Mr Dewani l’avait payé lui et ses complices 1 400 livres pour assassiner sa femme.
Ce n’est pas la première fois, qu’un touriste est assassiné en Afrique du sud, mais cette fois-ci les faits sont troublants. Pourquoi les criminels ont-ils épargné le marié ? Pourquoi a-t-il rapidement quitté l’Afrique du sud et pourquoi a-t-il pris un avocat ? L’Afrique du sud a déposé une demande d’extradition et l’enquête est toujours en cours.

Mon opinion :

Cette information est vraiment une histoire abracadabrante. Quand un couple ne s’entend plus, ils devraient tout simplement se séparer. Je pense que si le mari est coupable, il devrait avoir de fortes raisons pour le faire.
Il est possible que M. Dewani ait regardé beaucoup de films à la sauce bollywoodienne et a été inspiré par leurs scénarios incroyables. C'est pourquoi il aurait monté de toutes pièces ce scénario macabre.
