Trip to Amsterdam
On January 30, we went to the Venice of the north, Amsterdam renown for being one of the most beautiful and ancient cities of Europe and a longtime trade city.
We arrived at 10 O’clock in the central place where the town hall, a beautiful Golden Age building, stands. Then we walked down a very famous merchant street both picturesque and bustling with activity. Walking across the canals we could imagine Amsterdam back in the 17th century when merchants traded spices from India and other goods.
Next, our teachers gave us a 90 minutes lunch break, so with friends we went to the most healthiest and welcoming restaurants where Amsterdam’s gastronomy is proudly represented, Burger King ! Well I think we can skip this part, since everybody has already triedjunk-food I guess. Then we walked for 20-30 minutes to the Van Gogh Museum and I can say that despite the fact I was terribly sick - and so terribly tired - the Museum was very interesting, we learnt about Van Gogh’s painting methods, we touched some paints and so we could feel the matter and approach the technicity of his works.
Then we had a beautiful Amsterdam’s Boat tour where we could see all the city along the canals and at the same time with some audio files we learned a lot about the history of the city. During the tour you could imagine the city at different times and so picture yourself as a Dutch merchant returning from East Indies trading posts with cargoes of spices, navigating on the Amstel.
And we ended our journey with some short free time during which we got lost in the middle of Amsterdam. Fortunately we reached the station where our teacher was waiting for us and came back safely home.
